Nathan has a PhD in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology from Oregon Health & Science University where he developed a new machine learning algorithm to predict responses in a three-dimensional tensor using features for each of the dimensions. One application involves predicting drug response at various doses for cancer cell lines using the genetics of the cell lines and structural features of the drugs. In addition, he also worked on several projects centered around primate evolution and genomic rearrangements. Before getting interested in biology, he studied math, earning his bachelor’s degree from Ohio University, his master’s degree from Portland State University and teaching for several years. On his free time, he enjoys playing and seeing music, running, biking, camping, playing games and traveling.
