Lawrie was born and raised in Utah and first worked in a lab at Huntsman Cancer Institute as a lab aide. After receiving her B.S. in biology and chemistry at the University of Utah, she spent a year serving in AmeriCorps at The Road Home homeless shelter working with the chronically homeless. She then worked at Myriad Genetics as a lab technician processing the myRisk Hereditary Cancer panel before eventually joining the Recursion team. Lawrie likes to spend most of her spare time playing video games, getting angry at things on the internet, and telling her family about things that made her angry on the internet.
