Coming from a background in biomedical engineering, Kristen joined Recursion's team as a Technical Operations Analyst, heavily involved with designing the many experiments that run every week. She brings experience from the lab where she studied the interactive effects of TGF-Beta and stiffness on fibroblast differentiation, nuclear magnetic resonance as a tool for non-invasive non-radioactive bone quality assessment, and worked on identifying a stable arrestin mutant that binds with non-preferred forms of rhodopsin to aid people with degenerative photoreceptors causing night blindness. She also brings experience from the medical device industry where she worked as an R&D and sustaining engineer at Smith & Nephew designing arthroscopic coblation devices. Outside of work, she is the epitome of an 'obsessed dog (and cat) mom' and spends nearly all of her free time running, skiing, and mountain biking. Running at the 2020 Marathon Olympic Trials and representing Team USA at the 2019 World Mountain Running Championships in Argentina are amongst her top goals for the near future.
