ames earned undergraduate degrees in math and physics and then completed a PhD in math at BYU in 2013 where he proposed a partial explanation to the so-called Annuity Puzzle. James's academic background is focused primarily in partial differential equations and stochastic control with applications to imaging technology and financial markets. After a short stint as an assistant professor at BYU, James left academia to apply machine learning to lead optimization at InsideSales.com. James first joined Recursion in 2016 and is back with Recursion after a small detour into machine learning for smart home technology with Vivint Smart Home. Outside of work, James enjoys diverse academic, athletic, and artistic pursuits but can primarily be found spending as much time as possible with his beautiful wife and children.
