Ben is fascinated by questions at the intersection of biology and data science. Ben trained as a mathematician, earning a doctorate from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, a masters’ degree from the University of California, Davis, and a bachelor’s degree from Harvey Mudd College. In his academic research, Ben built mathematical models to explore how cells move, how they produce force, and how they transport particles in and out of the nucleus. In a past life, Ben briefly worked as a science journalist at Scientific American, where he interviewed reclusive geniuses and Russian billionaires, chased down stories about collaborating chimpanzees, and broke the news about an ultrafast x-ray laser.
Outside of work, Ben enjoys skiing, biking, planting trees, and being outside with his partner and their two dogs.
