Using genetic manipulation, we create disease models in relevant human cell types, then use high throughput imaging coupled with automated image analysis to identify compounds that reverse cellular disease phenotypes. This approach creates incredibly rich data sets and is agnostic to preconceived notions of what the cellular disease phenotype should be. Once we have identified candidate treatments for a particular disorder, our Target and Compound Validation team develops a literature-based understanding of the disease, then uses automated and traditional wet-lab approaches to determine if our treatments rescue known disease phenotypes.

Your work as part of our Target and Compound Validation team—using independent cell and molecular techniques—will significantly increase the speed of our drug discovery platform and will help us achieve our mission of discovering 100 rare disease treatments by 2025.

The team's key mission is to use disease-specific assays to experimentally assess drug candidates in order to prioritize or deprioritize them for pre-clinical work. This role is ideal for someone who can think about how to innovate and improve processes, think creatively, and work well in a team environment. In this role you will work to answer some pretty interesting questions: How do we scale and automate our Validation platform to handle many disease and drug targets coming off of our screening pipeline? What extensions of our Validation platform will yield the most useful data (e.g. new cell types, new/more equipment, alternative techniques, etc.)?

For this role, we are looking for researchers who are eager to:

  • Experiment - We want research associates with “good hands.” You will use traditional wet-lab approaches to determine if our treatments rescue known disease phenotypes.
  • Innovate - We want research associates who like to innovate. You will leverage our automated equipment to scale the experimental process. We are looking for people to improve and challenge our processes and ideas.
  • Collaborate - We want research associates who play well with others. In addition to collaborating with your peers in Biology, you will also work cross functionally with members of the Data Science, Software Engineering, and High Throughput Screening teams.
  • Make decisions - We want research associates who can think on their feet.  You will have a great team to use as a resource, but will also be trusted to come up with solutions independently.


  • A Bachelor degree and/or masters in a biological field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in standard molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g. cell culture, western blot, RT-PCR, immunocytochemistry etc)
  • Design, execute, analyze and troubleshoot experiments
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Well organized, good attention to details, ability to multi-task
  • Ability to thrive in fast pace environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in Luminex, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, and high-content imaging highly preferred
