At Recursion, we combine experimental biology, automation and artificial intelligence to identify treatments for human diseases. The Innovation Biology Research team is looking for an Associate who will spend their time in a wide variety of areas:

35% Developing, optimizing, and miniaturizing new Cell biology and Biochemistry assays

35% Executing large format screens in 1536 well plates

35% Developing new ways to model rare diseases

30% Performing targeted Genetic Engineering

Wait, that does not add up! Basically this is an opportunity to have a great impact by contributing to multiple different projects. You will be part cell culturist, part cell biologist, part biochemist, and part genetic engineer. Everything you will do will contribute to Recursion helping patients who have no other avenues for cures. To achieve this, we're looking for someone who wants to be the best at what they do every day they come in, from simple molecular biology skills to more complicated projects like learning a new assay, planning initial test experiments, analyzing data, and then translating your findings into larger scale formats, say 100, 1536 well plates.

Essential aspects of the position:

The Research Associate will report to a Research Scientists and will work as part of our Innovation Biology team—using independent cell and molecular techniques—to increase the speed of our drug discovery platform.

For this role, we're looking for researchers who:

  • Experiment We want research associates with “good hands.” You will use traditional wet-lab approaches to push forward each of the areas mentioned above.
  • Innovate We want research associates who like to innovate. You will leverage our automated equipment to scale the experimental process.
  • Collaborate In addition to collaborating with your peers in Innovation Biology, you will also work with members of the Data Science, Software Engineering, and High Throughput Screening teams.
  • Make decisions We want research associates who can think on their feet. You will have a great team to use as a resource, but will also be trusted to come up with solutions independently.


  • A Bachelor’s degree and/or masters in a biological field with a minimum of 2-10 years of post Bachelors research lab experience.
  • Be able to design, execute, analyze and troubleshoot experiments. Proficiency with the cell culture of cell lines and primary cells, aseptic technique in the molecular bio and tissue culture labs, PCR, and Sequencing. Biochemical assay experience is helpful.
