At Recursion, we combine experimental biology, automation and artificial intelligence to quickly and efficiently identify treatments for human diseases.  This platform is the core of our mission: transforming drug discovery into a data science problem. You'll work with our data, biology, high-throughput screening (HTS), and engineering teams to identify and answer questions in high-dimensional data space using your abilities and intuitions and our evolving data science platform.  Broadly speaking, you'll need to effectively leverage your computational skills, understanding of experimental biology, and background knowledge of microscopy image data to help us improve our search for treatments.



This role requires working closely with the Disease- and Innovation- Biology teams to help conceive, design, analyze, and interpret biological experiments that have the potential to advance our platform.  Competency in devising and performing exploratory analyses for a wide range of experimental questions is critical to success in this role— as is a clear understanding of what you can and can’t conclude from a specific dataset and the ability to present and discuss your conclusions.  You will also facilitate the scaling and broader deployment of select projects, both in terms of advising the scale-up of technical operations and deploying respective analytical approaches in collaboration with our technical operations and engineering teams. As a data scientist, you will also leverage your past experience to recommend creative solutions and execute on these development projects in collaboration with a team lead & project manager.



  • High fluency and the equivalent skills of 2+ years of experience in: experimental biology, machine learning, coding, and answering questions in high-dimensional numerical datasets— preferably using the Python data stack (pandas, sklearn, etc).
  • The ability to structure unstructured problems, even those without a clearly defined measure of success, in order to derive conclusions and make decisions amidst great uncertainty.
  • A track record of outstanding past projects, publications, or presentations.

We have raised over $80M to apply machine learning to one of the most unique datasets in existence - over a petabyte of imaging data spanning more than 10 billion cells treated with hundreds of thousands of different biological and chemical perturbations, generated in our own labs - in order to find treatments for hundreds of diseases.
